One effective solution to this problem was to flank players and kill them before they had a chance to replenish their health. One way to deal with this problem was to wait until the player(s) ran out of Medkits, but this could take a very long time depending on how many they had.

This resulted in players being able to spam Medkits in order to regain full health very quickly, therefore making them very difficult to kill in a firefight. One additional thing to note is that all medical items such as the Small Medkit and the Large Medkit could be used immediately without any delay. The only problem with these mechanics is that they were somewhat unrealistic and made it difficult for more inexperienced players to succeed in firefights. This resulted in fairly simple yet effective gunplay mechanics which encouraged precise and accurate shooting rather than spraying. Recoil was also largely reduced when compared with Experimental and muzzle flashes tended to be less distracting. Bullets tended to travel in fairly straight lines which rewarded players for skill rather than luck. One thing to note about the gunplay in Legacy is that bullet paths were a lot more predictable. However, Rust Experimental seems to focus more on the make-shift style by introducing weapons with more rustic looking designs. There were also some make-shift weapons (such as the Revolver, Pipe Shotgun, Hunting Bow, etc), that were generally frowned upon by the community. Rust Legacy featured some interesting weapons based on real life army grade rifles and pistols (such as the M4, MP5A4, 9mm Pistol, Shotgun, etc). Because the game was hosted externally this meant that players could no longer play the game officially after it was removed. Rust Legacy was eventually removed from Steam in Devblog 139 on 8th December 2016, citing lack of player populatity.

Initially, some players were satisfied with the choice to continue playing Legacy because the new version of the game would not run well on some computers, and some players preferred the simplicity of the original version of the game. However, the game was no longer receiving regular updates as the developers were primarily focused on improving the newer version of Rust. The game was in some aspects outdated which lead to the creation of what was then called Rust Experimental, which became the current version of the game.Įven after creating Rust Experimental in 2014, the developers left the option to go back to Legacy by selecting either version in the steam game menu. Since LegionRust's launch we've had our developers constantly searching through the games source to find new, non-public, exploits, and patch them as quickly as possible. This means we can create a fair and level playing field for all players. Not only do we run a clientside AntiCheat, but we also have all well-known Legacy exploits and hacks patched server side (even many that are not public).
